DormChef (“we,” “our,” or “us”) helps students plan meals and shop on a budget. This policy
explains what information we collect when you use the DormChef mobile app and this website,
and how we use it.
Information we collect
- Account: Email address and authentication data when you sign up (via Supabase Auth). If you use Apple or Google sign-in, we receive the profile details those providers share.
- Profile & preferences: Dietary restrictions, budget preferences, and flavor notes you enter during onboarding or in Settings.
- Recipes & cookbook: Recipes the Chef creates for you, ingredient lists, prices from Kroger searches, and recipes you save to your cookbook.
- Pantry & grocery list: Items you add to your pantry and grocery list in the app.
- Cooking activity: When you rate a recipe after cooking, we may store the recipe, your rating, and experience points (XP) tied to that session.
- Chef chat: Messages you send to the AI Chef and related tool results (e.g. shopping lists) to provide the service.
How we use your information
- Provide and improve the app (recipes, pricing, dietary-aware suggestions).
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- Store your cookbook, pantry, lists, and stats across devices when you are signed in.
- Send account emails (confirmation, password reset) through our email provider configured in Supabase.
Third-party services
- Supabase — database, authentication, and secure storage (Supabase Privacy).
- Groq — powers the AI Chef; your chat messages and context are sent to generate responses (Groq Privacy).
- Kroger — product search and pricing when building recipes; we send ingredient search terms, not your Kroger account (Kroger Privacy).
- Vercel — hosts this website for email confirmation and this policy page.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not provide medical or clinical nutrition advice; meal information is for planning only.
- Payment card data is not collected in the app today (Kroger purchases happen on Kroger’s site if you follow product links).
Data retention & deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can sign out at any time. To delete your
account and associated data, contact us at
privacy@dormchef.me from the email on your account.
We will process deletion requests within a reasonable time, subject to legal retention requirements.
Security
We use industry-standard practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), row-level security
on our database, and server-side protection for API keys. No system is 100% secure; use a strong,
unique password for your account.
Children
DormChef is intended for users who can form a binding contract (typically 18+ or the age of
majority in your region). We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new date at the top of this page.
Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
